Prepare the space where your child will be changed
The place where you change your child must be immediately functional, because you will not be able to leave him once he is lying on the changing table. So check that everything is ready and within reach:
- the changing mat, ideally covered with a clean, dry towel (it is more practical to wash a towel regularly than a mattress cover);
- a clean diaper;
- several cotton pads or wipes (prefer ecological wipes made from natural material);
- care products;
- possibly, a tap or a recovered bottle with measuring cap that you have filled with water.
Wash your hands, then place your child on the changing table. When he is older and/or you have more experience, you will very easily know how to reproduce all these gestures in less comfortable places such as a bed, a sofa or even a car seat!
Clean baby
Once your child is securely seated, undo the diaper fasteners. Fold them over themselves so they don't get caught everywhere.
If your child has had heavy stools, he will be dirty on the pubis, or even on the stomach. Remove this dirt with the front of the diaper. Then lift baby 's bottom by holding him behind the knees and close the diaper, leaving the clean front side on top. You can now rest your child's bottom on the diaper. This helps keep the towel or changing mat clean.
Then moisten the cotton with liniment , a suitable micellar water or a cleansing milk suitable for this use. Clean the stomach and genitals carefully, checking the folds carefully. If you have a little girl, proceed from top to bottom to avoid infections (from the cleanest to the dirtiest).
Lift baby , still behind the knees, and clean his bottom. The stools are sometimes so heavy and watery that they flow down the back. You must therefore pass the cotton or wipe over the kidneys. If necessary, lean your child slightly to the side to clean them well.
Protecting baby's skin with appropriate care
The treatment is especially recommended when babies have liquid stools, as these are more irritating to the skin. Urine also causes itching. If your child's bottom is red, do not hesitate to use diaper cream. Choose creams without zinc oxide. You should consult a pediatrician when the skin remains inflamed for several days in a row.
Of course, products must be chosen carefully. Check the ingredient list carefully. At Love and Green, we ban any preservative that could be carcinogenic or endocrine disrupting. Our products are certified organic by Ecocert and comply with the requirements of the Cosmebio charter, which requires a minimum of 95% natural ingredients and bans controversial substances. Replace a diaper
Your child's bottom is clean and soft. All that's left to do is put on a clean diaper. Set aside the one you just removed and place a new layer in its place. Place it high enough below baby's waist. The flaps should be level at the front and back and the waist should be snug in the diaper. The thighs must also be wrapped: the flaps must meet and cross over the hips. All this without tightening too much, so that your child can fidget freely! This may seem complicated to you, but rest assured: you will get the hang of it very quickly. Trust yourself.
All you have to do is close the dirty diaper. Pick up your child and place them safely, then throw away the diaper and wash your hands. It's finish ! Until the next change , of course.
